Surgery Day...

This morning Payson had surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids, as well as, have tubes put in his ears. Leading up to his surgery, I had many conversations with him to prepare him for the big day. He was such a brave boy, and the only time he cried before the surgery was when we had to tell him he couldn't eat or drink anything. Everything at the hospital went quickly and smoothly because he was pre-registered last week. The nurses had cartoons turned on in his room, which helped pass the time before he went back. The anesthesiologist told us it was best to let Payson go back by himself, instead of making a big deal with goodbyes. It melted my heart watching Payson march off, all by himself, while holding a nurses hand. His surgery took less than a half an hour, and when it was over, the doctor called me back to let me know that everything went great. Then, I had to wait for him to wake up. This was the hardest part for me because I really wanted to be there with him. The nurses were very good about getting me back to him as soon as possible. When I finally got to him and saw how upset he was, I lost it and started to bawl. Crying really caught me off guard because, between Paul and I, I was the least anxious about Payson's surgery. I guess when you are a mom, it is hard to see your baby so upset. I was able to hold him and calm him down until he fell asleep in my arms. We eventually had to wake him up so the nurse could see that he was fine and able to go home. Since we've been home, Payson has been resting on the couch and eating pudding, popsicles and jello. We all just woke up from a 3 hour family nap and Payson seems in good spirits.

Payson in the waiting room.
We made sure to bring his special bear.
Getting weighed and measured.
Watching cartoons in his room.
Getting his blood pressure taken.
Getting his hospital bracelet.
Mommy got to wear a matching one too.
All ready to go!
Snuggling while we wait.

Marching off to surgery by himself.  :(
So thankful for his caring nurses.
Passed out on Mommy after surgery.

Too out of it to eat his popsicle.

Ready to go home.
Doesn't he look pathetic?
Daddy carrying him to the car.
We took our small car, so Mommy
could sit in the back with him.
Resting comfortably at home.
